Get Involved
If you want to help the effort to provide alternatives to corporate capitalism while providing a safe, open community space Monkeywrench needs your help.
There are many levels of involvement and responsibility at Monkeywrench Books. Those who wish to help out, but do not have any time to give can make a donation by dropping by the store or mailing a donation to:
110 E. North Loop
Austin, TX 78751
If you have time available, you can help run the bookstore: staff, organize events, help accounting, update the website, order books, etc. There are several levels of involvement, as listed below:
VOLUNTEER: Volunteers help staff the store, but they are not limited to just this. Many volunteers do much more than staff a shift at the store. Some organize events, order books or table at events in the Austin area that seem like the sort of event you might expect a MonkeyWrench Books table to be at. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, drop by the store and put your name on our volunteer contact sheet. One of the volunteer coordinators will get back to you as soon as possible. Or, e-mail to learn more.
STAFFER: Staffers basically are volunteers with a few more months of service under their belts--they run the store on their weekly shift and many actually have volunteers that work with them. the main difference between a staffer and a collective member is that staffers for one reason or another cannot attend meetings so they can't really participate in the decision-making process for the space.
COLLECTIVE MEMBER: The collective is made up of people who want to keep MonkeyWrench going and growing. Most of the collective members staff a shift, organize events, work on one of the committees that makes the joint run like a swiss watch, attend meetings every other Tuesday or some combination of the above. Membership in the collective is open to anyone who has volunteered for at least four weeks and has been reccomended by the staffer or collective member they work with.
