Please join Nuclear Free Texas in a presentation about recent proposals to build two new nuclear power plants in Texas.

NRG, a company that rececently was on the verge of bankruptcy, has proposed to add two nuclear plants to the South Texas (Nuclear) Project site in Matagorda County, near Bay City, Texas.

These plants came in 600% over budget and eight years late last time. In 2003 there was a leak of radioactive material at one of the two existing units. Despite industry claims to the contrary, nuclear plants pose risks from accidents, radioactive exposure, storage of wastes, and the ultimate nightmare - a meltdown.

There are cleaner, more affordable, less carbon dioxide intensive ways to meet our energy needs today, through energy efficiency and renewable wind and solar power. If we allow funding to be diverted to nuclear plants, it worsens our ability to deal with the urgent problem of global warming now.

Your ideas and energy are needed!
