Wheatsville is currently having its elections. If you are a Wheatsville member, you should vote in them. NOW! PUT DOWN THAT LONE STAR AND VOTE!
Wheatsville Board Elections

Wheatsville, if you didn't know, is a cooperative store. Meaning members in theory run the thing, and do so by voting on the composition of the Board of Directors and other matters (boycotts, nonprofit donations, etc.). However, the voter turnout in these elections is remarkably small. I'm generally not one to encourage voting, but when it's in co-ops and local issues it's pretty important.

[Just to be clear and honest, I'm personally a little anti-Wheatsville these days, because they seem to have fallen into the national trend of organic food co-ops being anti-union and anti-employee organizing. I know good people who have left Wheatsville recently, by choice or by force, because of it. I can think of few things as ridiculous as an anti-union food co-op, but this seems to be happening more and more across the country as they target more upscale clientèle and in the process take on some of the failings of the corporate world. Once again it's a personal opinion, but I don't shop at a co-op just because the food is a little better. The premium I pay is for having a clean soul in the process, and when I find out that my store of choice is anti-union, that tarnishes things quite a bit. Maybe some people think that's too idealistic or critical, but I think it's important, and anyone else is free to disagree. If you agree though, be sure and mention it. The cooperative model is still the best, it just isn't perfect, and this is a problem that can be improved. I hope members decide to address it effectively, and justify my faith in the cooperative model in the process.]
