The RepRap expresses the potential of DIY values in the postindustrial age. Rather than see a division between high and low tech, we recognize the true technological poles as technology that tends towards alienation and centralization, and a technics that tends towards integration, intensity of experience, decentralization and variability.
The RepRap could also be called a build-anything machine, because that's its purpose. This is a desktop fabricator, that "prints" 3-dimensional objects from plastic polymer. "RepRap" stands for replicating rapid-prototyper. There are other desktop fabricators, but the RepRap is an ongoing "open source" project, and its designs are free and online.
