For Jobs and Freedom: Race and Labor in America since 1865 is the historical narrative of the African American fight for job equality and organized labor’s (often inadequate) response to their demands. Zieger, an award-winning historian of labor in the US, examines the employment struggles of African Americans from the abolition of slavery to the present and argues that the availability of jobs was the cornerstone on which the concept of freedom hinged.

Robert H. Zieger is Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Florida and the author of several books, including American Workers, American Unions; The CIO, 1935–1955; and John L. Lewis: Labor Leader.

There will be a film screening of Tongues Untied a 1989 semi-documentary by Marlon Riggs focusing on race and sexuality as presented by grad students from UT. Hated by Pat Buchanan and controversial at the time of its initial release, it is a must see film. Vegan snacks provided.

The Mondiali Antirazzisti (Anti-Racist World Cup) is an annual
tournament in Italy that celebrates football -- as it's known in the
rest of the world -- in its purest form: non-commercial,
anti-competitive, bringing people together and not causing division
through racism, nationalism and sexism. It's a really fun time as well.

In 2006 Austin Anarchist Soccer was the first team ever from North America
to play in the Mondiali. This Year AAS fielded two teams at
the tournament. Both times we took home the Coppa Chilometra
(Kilometer Cup) for being the team that traveled the furthest distance
to attend. The first year it was awarded to Texas Anti-Borders Patrol,
and last year it was given to ATX United.
