Report Back From the G8 Protests in Heilingendamm, Germany from June 2007 The recent protests against the G8 in Germany were a huge resurgence of energy for global justice activists and movements--north and south. There were two major German movements that influenced the mobilization--the autonomen, an anti-fascist, autonomist movement that gave rise to the black bloc tactic in the 1980's and the anti-nuclear movement which recently has focused on the struggle to stop nuclear transports. These combined forces, along with the extensive and stellar organizing by an array of German collectives, networks and groups, used a variety of tactics, including the Five Finger Strategy, culminating in a massive two and half day takeover of all the roads leading into Helingendamm--forcing the G8 to fly and boat delegates in to the city. Despite the overwhelming show of force, pepper spray and water cannons, and internal struggles and divisions around tactics, thousands of mostly young people stepped into their power and shut the roads down! The excitement, energy and sense of success will reverberate for some time. Come see a slide show, organizing materials and hear stories of what and how things happened! Wednesday, July 18th

Information and Recent Videos from Oaxaca On July 16th, the Oaxaca state police attacked a demonstration with tear gas and clubs. Again. The result was 40 people injured--two of them in serious condition and hospitalized, 60 people arrested, six buses five cars and a truck burned in barricades on the streets. 428 days after a peaceful strike by the state teacher's union was attacked by state and city police--an action that caused a state-wide rebellion resulting in 23 deaths and hundreds of arrests of demonstrators-- the police and the Governor of Oaxaca have again attempted to crush a peaceful demonstration demanding liberty and justice in Oaxaca. Please join us for an evening of information and recent video footage from the Mal de Ojo video collective. We will screen their June 2007 film COMPROMISO CUMPLIDO a documentary that denounces Human Rights violations committed by the government of Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, including six political murders, which occurred during the 2006 Oaxaca uprising. The film uncovers a strategy of State terrorism which to this day remains unpunished. The film is in spanish. No subtitles were available at the time of this announcement. Thursday, August 2nd After the videos and discussion, we will be planning for a demonstration demanding the release of all prisoners and the end to government repression of APPO, VOCAL and other organizations in Oaxaca.
